Realising opportuntities

Realising Opportunities (RO) provides support during post-16 studies to develop the skills to be successful at university.

Students benefit from increased information, advice and access to some of the country’s leading research intensive universities. Students accepted on to RO follow a programme which ensures they are better equipped for university life and what research intensive universities can offer.

Zero Gravity

Connect with mentors and turn your exam success into a force for the future, with free access to expert advice from our leading community of undergrads. A mentor will guide you through the university application process. Whether it’s a personal statement, admissions test, or an interview - they’ve got you covered.

Target Oxbridge

The number of black students at Oxbridge has doubled since the foundation of Target Oxbridge. Target Oxbridge is a free programme that helps black students and students of mixed ethnicity with black heritage increase their chances of getting into the UK’s top two universities. 18% of the black students admitted to Oxbridge last year came from Rare.

Sutton Trust’s Summer School Programme

Gives you the chance to experience what university life is really like. Take part in a week-long residential at one of the 13 partner universities where you can explore academic taster sessions in your chosen subject.

 You will also take part in workshops that will help you navigate UCAS, bursaries, money management and write the best personal statement possible.

SEO Schools

 Events and opportunities that inspire students and give them the chance to explore their options and make informed choices about their future. Gain multiple industry exposure, Insight to higher education pathways, work readiness skill development, networking and mentoring opportunities.  

 

Rare Recruitment - Schools

Offer one-to-one support with university applications and personal statements, CV and interview workshops, debating and commercial awareness sessions. Rare Recruitment also develop and recruit for bespoke work experience placements.

Project Access

This online mentorship programme helps students from underrepresented backgrounds across the UK navigate the university application process.

Our mentors are current students at the world's top universities, who want to make their campuses more diverse.

 

SEO - Advance Programme

Provides talented secondary school students from social mobility- qualifying backgrounds with a range of support services to improve their academic attainment, and progression to university and elite careers. The programme is a three-year cycle where students from Year 11 rotate across a range of industries for work experience, and it includes academic and personal support.

The Social Mobility Foundation

The Foundation open up university and the top professions for those without the means or networks to get there. The programme is completely free of charge and supports students from Year 12, lower sixth or S5 onwards. Offering professional mentoring, tailored skills sessions and career workshops, university application support and internships with top employers.



Undergraduates

Babbassa

Babbasa is a Bristol-based social enterprise supporting aspiring young people from disadvantaged communities to pursue their professional ambitions. Babbassa directly offer less advantaged young people access to skills training programmes, mentors and opportunities. 

UpReach - Aim

Aim is a targeted professional development and application support programme, available to undergraduates from all universities looking to make applications to our partner employers.

UpReach - Sector Springboard

A Sector Springboard is a sector targeted professional development and application support programme, designed to support undergraduates who are interested in joining a particular sector or industry. Current Sector Springboards include: Banking & Finance, Investment and Savings, Law and Technology.

UpReach - Rise

Rise is typically a three year programme of personalised career support designed to help undergraduates explore their career options and enhance their employability to achieve their career ambitions with application support for any employer in any career sector. This programme is sponsored by our partner universities or foundations, which determines eligibility.

Graduates

Project Access - Masters

The Project Access Graduate Program is a free mentorship program helping less privileged students apply for Master’s at leading universities in the UK, US, and Europe. Offering a mentor, 1-1 advice, personal statements, references, research proposals, and all other aspects of your application.

Black, Asian and ethnic minorities

BYP Network

BYP Network connects black students and professionals in the United Kingdom for career opportunities with corporations. BYP work with innovative companies that care about diversity and inclusion by posting jobs directly to the black community. Apprenticeships, internships, graduate roles and experienced hire jobs are all available.

BAATN

Provides help and support to students of Black, African, Asian and Caribbean heritage who are in counselling or psychotherapy training by way of a free mentoring service. The programme is set up to run within the academic year.

SEO - Consulting

Offer masterclasses, networking and industry events that provide valuable insights into consulting as a career. The programme also provides CV guidance, case study practice and application support to help you secure internship or a graduate role in top consulting companies.

 

SEO - HerCapital

A female leadership programme that supports and trains talented students in university to help them launch their career in a variety of sectors. The six-month-long leadership programme adopts an integrated approach to guide HerCapital associates to develop with in their own environment​, gain authentic exposure to the financial services industry, ​practice and refine their leadership skills​, challenge and adopt a growth mindset.

Rare Recruitment: Rare Foundations

Consulting is an exclusive career event for black Rare candidates in their first year (or second year of a four-year university course) who are interested in a career in consulting.

Success Looks Like - Career Accelerator Programme

Founded in 2011 with a mission to connect BAME heritage students, aged 18-24 years old, to quality careers advice.

Mentoring digitally via a portal - to the one to one sessions with our career mentors. As well as working to create a foster of online workshops and training. events.

TRiBE

A charitable organisation, run by Black women for Black women. With the Community Mentoring Programme and the TRiBE Toolbox, Tribe supports Black women to develop sustainable and fulfilling careers alongside the skills necessary to navigate the inequalities and daily aggressions that we experience.

SEO - Corporate Law

The programme connects law and non-law undergraduates, graduates and career changers from both ethnic minority and social mobility-classifying backgrounds with some of the most prestigious commercial law firms in the UK. The comprehensive programming includes great exposure to our sponsor firms, build confidence, improve industry knowledge and refine professional skills.

SEO - Investment Banking & Asset Management

Industry insight sessions, exclusive masterclasses, networking opportunities with industry professionals, pre-internship training and application guidance for those interested in pursuing a career in the industry.

 

WCAN

The scheme is targeted at young black female professionals and is designed to help them achieve their professional goals and climb the ladder.

ColourInTech - NXTgen

Upskilling and supporting you into your first role in tech. A tech career readiness accelerator programme co-developed by the leading tech companies in the world for university students.


 

SEO -Beyond Barriers

Beyond Barriers is a six month programme that supports graduates from underserved and underrepresented backgrounds who have not yet secured full-time employment since they graduated.

SEO - Corporates and Technology

Opportunities to access a career in corporates and technology. Working with more than 40 corporate sponsors, SEO London train, coach, mentor and give them direct access to professionals in the industry through an intense calendar of events, workshops, webinars, and assessment support.

Pegasus Access and Support Scheme - Becoming a barrister  

PASS aims to support high achieving students from under-represented backgrounds by providing the experiences they need to be able to thrive at the Bar. 

PASS aims to do this by securing a mini-pupillage in chambers for each participant. PASS also supports participants by providing a focused professional and advocacy skills development programme.
